ELEPHANT ART CARVED FROM A PENCIL LEAD BY CINDY D. CHINN.
This is my most recent commission piece. I was asked to carve an elephant from a pencil lead, but as usual… I got a little carried away! This elephant art piece was actually carved from a few pencils and then assembled onto the pencil you see below.
I was able to get this level of detail thanks to my new trinocular microscope (my new favorite toy)!
I am a full-time Artist and when I create artwork, I am reminded how lucky I am to have the freedom to do I as choose. That wasn’t always the case in my fast paced world in a corporate art career. Now that I live in Nebraska, I am able to fulfill my goal of being a fine artist and having the space to explore my many interests.
I love staring at a blank canvas and seeing the image come to life. Before I start a painting, I have a good idea of what it will look like but, like any path, detours are made. I find that acrylic paints are the best tools for my style as I paint in layers and the fast drying time suits me perfectly. If not painting, I am always working on a project or trying a new technique as I strive to learn and hone my creative skills.
