Maria Luise Bodirsky From Germany:”I have been working on the theme “metamorphosis” since 1994.
My metamorphoses – have doubtlessly become a central theme to me, partly through the experience with my four children. Metamorphosis means to me: birth, puberty, casting of the skin, process, development, dying… to let the new grow out of the old”.
“For 35 years now, my concern as an artist has been with the human being in her environment, development, transformation – her metamorphoses. My work is inspired by characters from early human history, Egyptian civilization, Greek mythology and the Old Testament as much as by modern literature.I am interested in particular in figures which change their appearance due to inner or outer circumstances – which enter into petrifaction like Lot’s wife and Antigone, or free themselves from it like Nike or Phoenix”.
